Hello Goingcrazy2012
Thank you for posting.
We can't say how long you may need to wait for your follow-up cervical screening after your HPV result. I wasn't sure whether you were expecting your GP surgery to contact you, or if you've already tried to book an appointment yourself. If you haven't yet contacted them, it's worth getting in touch to see if you can arrange this. It may simply be that they haven't received the results yet, which could explain why you haven't heard anything.
Waiting for tests and results can be an anxious and stressful time. It's important to remember that finding HPV doesn't mean there are abnormal cells on the cervix. Cervical screening first checks for HPV, as this is the virus that can cause cell changes. If HPV is found, the sample is then checked for any abnormal cells. Some people with HPV will not have abnormal cells, but if changes are found, you would usually be referred to a colposcopy clinic so the cervix can be examined more closely.
I hope this helps and that you're able to arrange your follow-up appointment soon.
