  • Hi there Elizabeth and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your past surgery and the persisting headache you have.

This must really affect your every day life and I can appreciate you wanting someone to help you.

I'm afraid there are a percentage of patients who are left with persisting headaches following brain surgery due to damage to nearby nerve pathways. Medications such as over the counter non steroidal painkillers alongside drugs such as gabapentin or amitriptyline are often used to help control this pain.

Unfortunately as nurses and without being involved in your care we can't give a medical opinion or advise you what you ought to be taking. We suggest arranging another appointment with your doctor to discuss the pain with them so they can adjust and change your medications to try and better manage these headaches for you.

If needed they can refer you to a pain management/ specialist headache clinic and/or back to your neurology team so they can also assess you and anything else that may be contributing to this pain.

I am sorry we can't be of more help on this occasion. but I do hope you are able to get the help and support you need at this time.

Do get back in touch if you would like to or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Take care
