peritoneal nodules found on CT

Hi I am 27 years old with 4 children

i have been having 6 months of bloating, pain, change in bowel habits. ovarian cancer runs in my dads side of the family.

I originally went to the hospital due to extreme bloating and pain. I was told it was constipation and no further tests was done.

i did go to my GP 1 week ago who referred me for a abdo/pelvis CT with contrast.
I have got my report back and it mentioned that tiny peritoneal nodules was found in the right adnexa in my ovary.

I am really worried what could this mean?

Thank you

  • Hi peachmx and thank you for your post.

I’m sorry you are worried about your recent symptoms and can understand you wanting to find out more.

Nodules are tiny, raised bumps or small lumps of tissue. They can be solid or fluid-filled.

These nodules have been found in your peritoneum which is the smooth lining covering  your pelvic cavity.

The right adnexa refers to the region next to the uterus on the right side, which includes the right ovary, right fallopian tube, and surrounding connective tissue.

There maybe many reasons for these nodules such as, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease , Endometriosis or benign ( non cancerous) growths.

Your doctor will  interpret your scan results alongside your symptoms, medical history, and may be other tests if needed, such as, blood tests to find the exact cause.

I hope this information is helpful and you know more about your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Kind regards

    Tina
