Rare prostate cancer but contained

Tricky situation

Gleason 4+ 5 PET shows contained tumor in prostate.

Consultant reccomends full prostatectomy but only if surgery can be performed soon. What are NHS wait times? How much and how quick is it private. I have the Relugolix tablets ready to go. Tempted to start. Will it affect surgery?

thanks

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you.

Waiting times for cancer surgery in the NHS can vary between hospitals so it is best to ask your own hospital how long you are likely to be waiting to have your operation. If you are wishing to explore the private option you are best to call around some private hospitals near to you to find out costs. Some people find it helpful to look these up by postcode on privatehealth.co.uk.

In terms of when you need to start taking your Relugolix, this is something you are also best to check with your specialist doctor or nurse. They will tell you when they wish you to start this. Some people start it before surgery and others afterwards but your team can tell you exactly when they want you to start.

I hope this is helpful but please do get back if you have more questions or wish to talk anything else through over the phone. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we're here weekdays 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
