7 years on Anastrazole is it wise to stop taking now to see if helps me with my fatigue?
Hello and thanks for posting
It’s best not to stop anastrozole without discussing it with your breast cancer team or GP first.
Many women take anastrozole for 5 years, while some are advised to continue for 10 years depending on the individual features of their cancer and risk of recurrence.
Fatigue can be a side effect of anastrozole, although there are often other causes too, such as, low iron, stress and depression, thyroid problems, poor sleep, other medications, or simply the long-term effects of cancer treatment.
However, after 7 years of treatment, it is very reasonable to ask whether continuing is still giving you enough benefit to outweigh feeling the way you do. Your GP or breast team may feel the additional benefit of continuing is relatively small, but they are better placed to advise you on this as they are familiar with all your medical details.
I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
Thank you
