Absolute anxiety.

Hi,

I am currently waiting on a biopsy result for a GIST in my stomach. This is to go along with the Hiatus hernia and duodenitis which have also been diagnosed.

I have now noticed a strange lump/lesion on the side.of my tongue. This has been there for a few weeks. This may be nothing, but with everything else going on, my health anxiety is going through the roof. I have booked a dental appointment to.get this looked at.

How the heck do people cope with this type of adversity?

I cant function properly at the moment with all of this worry.

Am I going to spend the rest of my life in suspended health anxiety?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are suspected of having a GIST tumour and have recently been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and duodenitis. You mention that you are also concerned about a lump on your tongue.

I can appreciate that all this worry in dealing with these health issues is preying on your mind. Many people describe feeling overwhelmed, stressed and panicked with their thoughts going to the worst-case scenario, so it’s no surprise you’re feeling this way. Trying to carry on with everyday life while this uncertainty is there in the background can be exhausting.

As you can appreciate, until all your test results are back, no one can say for certain what they might reveal. I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy, The NHS website has some useful tips on breathing exercises for stress that you might find helpful.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
