Upright MRI scanners do exist, but bone scans usually require you to lie down. I’m not aware of any hospitals that advertises bone scans in a sitting or upright position.

If your vertigo makes it impossible to lie flat, contact the scanning department to get advice before your appointment. They may be able to position you in such a way, raising your head using extra cushions. They may also discuss offering you some light sedation to relax you if this is appropriate.

If you still feel that you won’t be able to manage to have a bone scan, it’s worth asking your specialist team whether a different scan could provide the information they need instead of a standard bone scan.
