Lung cancer and ET

Hi

In 2022 I was diagnosed with 3 small adenocarcenomas in my right lung. At the end of that year I had a lobectomy and a wedge in another lobe to remove them. Non spread - not even to the lymph nodes. I've been clear for 4 years

Last week I was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia. I have started blood thinner and will be given lifelong chemotherapy in daily tablet form - hydroxycarbamide.

I've had no real appetite for some time now and don't enjoy savoury food. I would much rather have a punnet of grapes instead of a meal. I try to eat high nutrient, home-made, sweet food. I worry about getting enough vitamin and minerals. What vitamin and mineral supplements are safe for me to take?

Many thanks

Elaren

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Unfortunately, we can't advise you specifically on this. Most well known brands are probably safe to take.

You can check this out with a pharmacist who would be able to advise you about this and other medications. Most vitamins and supplements do not affect medications adversely, if they are taken within the recommended daily amounts (RDA) and not at high doses daily. I am not aware of any obvious issues with lung cancer and ET.

The NHS website has information on vitamins and minerals and The World Cancer Research Fund have a cancer-and-nutrition-helpline

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
