Worried that the symptoms I'm contending with could be a sign of breast cancer

Two weeks ago I woke up with a sore breast. I assumed I slept funny. The next day every step I took it was sore. The day after a pink rash (like a heat rash) covered my breast. It lasted about 4 days and then went away and have had no pain or rash. I am now obsessed with looking and in some lights I can see a slightly darker patch above my breast but only in darker lights. My question really is if it was cancer would the pain and redness go? I wonder if the slight change of skin colour is just the after mare of the rash. It’s just a small match and not noticeable unless I pointed it out. I have a habit of putting clean dog poo bags down my bra when I go for a dog walk and wonder if that coukd have irritated it.

  • Hi Thetrees38 and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear you're worried about your symptoms, and I understand why you'd like more information.

Unfortunately, we can't diagnose health problems.

If you're worried about any new symptom or changes in your body, it's important to speak to your GP.

Most of the time, there is a simple explanation for symptoms, but getting them checked can help put your mind at rest.

Cancer symptoms do not usually go away without treatment. They are more likely to get worse over time.

A rash and pain that appeared for a short time and then completely went away are less likely to be caused by cancer

and may have been due to a skin irritation or a minor infection.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you know more soon and everything is okay.

    Kind regards

    Tina

  • It could be something as simple as irritation from the rash or friction, but I wouldn’t try to diagnose it from symptoms alone. If you’re still noticing a change in the skin or you’re worried, it’s worth getting it checked by your GP for reassurance. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.

  • Thank you. I just don’t no why it became painful and pink rash. I’ve never had that before

  • Hi Thetrees38,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

First of all, let me say that I am not a medic, but someone who has recovered from 2 bouts of breast cancer.

The chances are that your rash may have appeared as a result of the exceptionally hot weather we've had recently. Popping your clean plastic dog poo bags down your bra, wouldn't give your skin the same chance to breathe and could have caused this. As everyone above has advised, we are always told to get any changes we notice in our breasts investigated and, even though the rash has now disappeared, it would still be a good idea to see your GP for adice.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you. There was pain before the rash which last about 3 days. The pink rash went after 4. In different lights I can still see a slight outline to where some of the rash was. It’s smaller and no pain and hoping it’s just because I have sensitive skin. I have had a mark on my foot for two months following a blister. The pink rash was a hard area above my nipple so definitely inflamed but that seems to have settled down. I was going to just leave it but it has made me obsessed to a point I can pass a mirror without checking it. I have contacted a GP and they said a 3/4 week wait. I had a mammogram two years ago due to a dent on my other breast which turned out to just be how the skin lay.
