New treatments for sclc?

My wife was recently diagnosed stage 4 sclc.

Are there any trials or new treatments for this ?

She is due chemo soon, then, I believe immuno if that goes well.  Also read chemo and immuno combined has been successful?  We are desperate for anything positive as the prognosis is so poor.

Thank you

  • Hello MarkLC and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your wife's situation and can appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you both.

As nurses, we do not recommend treatment as this needs to come from your wife's specialist team. We have some information on our website on how small cell lung cancer may be treated that you may find useful.

We also usually suggest when someone is interested in joining a trial they speak to their doctor. We have information about taking part in trials and a clinical trials database on our website, which you can look at. This lists the trials that we are aware of and have permission to put on the website. You can search for small cell lung cancer trials on the site.

Although our organisation help to fund trials, we are not directly involved in recruiting people to participate in them. This is done by the doctors and nurses working at the hospitals involved in running the trials and a medical referral is required for anyone to be considered. So I'm afraid I can't put your wife on to a trial, she would need to talk to her doctors about this.

Most trials will exclude people who are currently having treatment, or who have had other treatments in the last month or so. For each trial entry on our database there is a “who can enter” box which explains the entry requirements for that particular trial, and at the bottom, you can read where the trials are taking place (location).

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
