Advanced prostate cancer

Hi, I have advanced prostate cancer, for the past 3 years my treatment has been controlling my cancer well, whilst it has been a struggle at times the prostap3 injection and Enzalutamide have worked well.
My question is as follows:

I have noticed recently that the hair on my arms has grown back, is this change due to my treatment not working as well as it has been or is it nothing to be alarmed about?
regards

Martin

  • Hello Martin and thanks for posting

I'm pleased that your Prostap 3 and Enzalutamide have been controlling your prostate cancer well for the past three years, even though it has been a struggle at times for you.

The return of hair on your arms is not, by itself, a sign that your treatment has stopped working. Your hormone treatments reduce or block the effects of testosterone. Low testosterone commonly causes a reduction in body hair, but hair growth can fluctuate over time. Different men experience different patterns of hair loss and regrowth.

The best way to tell whether your treatment is still working are your PSA results, scan results ( if you have scans), and blood tests, not changes in body hair.

It is a good idea to mention the hair growth to your cancer team at your next appointment. But there is no reason to panic based on this symptom alone. If needed, they can check your testosterone level with your routine blood tests.

I hope this is of some use.. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

  • Thank you for your prompt response, my last PSA results was undetectable approximately 7 weeks ago.

This is the first occasion that I have had hair regrowing in any part of my body in over 3 years. As you can understand I have been a little concerned about the reason why I now have re-growth on my arms and hands.
