Anti depressants

My mother had breast cancer a few years ago and got over that but her oncologist stopped her anti depressants a couple of months ago after she has been on them for a very long time . She has now been diagnosed with lung cancer and she feels like she can’t cope without these tablets . My question is could she be put back on the anti depressants so she’s in the right head space to deal with the news she has stage 4 lung cancer and.

  • Hello Melissa and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your mother’s situation This must be an incredibly difficult time, and it is completely understandable that she feels overwhelmed right now.

It's possible for someone to go back on antidepressants again if they are struggling, but this needs to be discussed with her GP, oncologist, or nurse specialist.

Given that she has just been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and feels unable to cope, it is completely reasonable to ask for help with her mental health.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
