Chemo and immunotherapy start date

Hi, 

I had a tumour removed which was a reoccurrence 7 weeks ago and was told by a clinical oncologist on the 25 June my treatment would start in two weeks, she also says I would have a CT scan. I’m very concerned as my first chemo is scheduled for the 23 July which is not two weeks after seeing the oncologist and although I’m chasing it I have still not been contacted about my CT scan ( I’m presuming this is fine before chemo ) is there a way I can escalate this please ?

    I am sorry to hear that your cancer has returned and that you are still waiting for treatment to start. I can appreciate how worrying and frustrating this must be.

    You mentioned that your consultant initially suggested treatment would begin around two weeks after your appointment, but you have now been given a start date of 23 July and are still waiting to hear about the CT scan needed beforehand. Understandably, this is causing concern.

    Treatment plans can sometimes change because of scan availability, waiting lists, or other clinical factors. Your hospital team are best placed to explain why the start date has changed and whether this is likely to affect your care. It is reassuring that your tumour has already been removed.

    As you have not yet heard about the CT scan, you could contact your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or your consultant's secretary to check whether the scan has been booked and whether it may affect your treatment start date. If you have the radiology department's contact details, they may also be able to provide an update.

    If you are unable to get clarification, or remain concerned about the delay, you could contact the hospital's Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), who may be able to help.
