Aftercare of BCC SURGERY AND REMOVAL OF TEARDUCT ..

Having had the abive surgery 6 weeks ago...Can you tell me when the numbness round my eye and cheek will subside?? Also I have been left with a very watery eye. ..Will this clear up....

  • Hello SINBADSDAD, and thank you for getting in touch.

Following surgery for a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), it is not uncommon to experience numbness around the area that was treated. This can happen if small nerves were affected during surgery. In many people, the numbness gradually improves over time, but it can take several months before sensation returns. Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict exactly how long this will take.

You mentioned that your tear duct was removed as part of the surgery. The tear ducts normally help drain tears away from the eye, so if a tear duct has been removed or affected by surgery, this can cause ongoing watering of the eye. Whether this improves will depend on the type of surgery you had and whether a new tear duct was surgically created. Your surgeon or specialist nurse would be best placed to advise you about what to expect in your individual situation.

As we do not know the exact details of your surgery, we cannot be more specific. However, if the watering is troublesome, or if you develop redness, pain, discharge, or any changes in your vision, you should contact your surgical team for assessment.

I hope this is helpful and wish you well with your continued recovery.
