Prostate cancer

Husband diagnosed 1 week ago , initial 2x dose of degarelix, now suffering with diarrhoea and problem urinating , is this to be expected

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your husband's situation.

Diarrhoea can be a side effect of degarelix and it usually settles down within a few days. Difficulty or pain when passing urine has also been reported as a possible side effect.

However, because he was only diagnosed a week ago, his urinary symptoms can also be related to the prostate cancer itself.

I would encourage your husband to drink plenty of fluids and if needed, he can take an anti diarrhoea tablet such as loperamide to manage the diarrhoea. Do let his his specialist team or nurse specialist know, especially if the symptoms are getting worse.

I hope things improve soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
