Lower back pain - is this due to my prostate cancer?

Diagnosed prostate cancer 8 months ago.  Have constant lower back pain for 6 months, is this connected to the cancer.  Cancer only mild and on active surveillance.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have back pain and are on active surveillance for prostate cancer.

Back pain is common and can be caused by many different things and is something that affects people at any stage of life.

If your prostate cancer is contained and slow growing it is unlikely that the back pain is linked to the cancer. However like with any persisting symptom it should be checked out by your doctor just to be on the safe side.

They can examine you and run some more tests if needed.

In the mean time do try and make sure you carry out regular gentle exercise such as walking, swimming or pilates. If the pain is particularly painful then do try something like paracetamol or ibuprofen or apply a heat pack if you can to help ease things.

Do speak with your doctor when you are able so they can assess this further.

If you have further questions please get back in touch or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes
