Hello and thanks for posting
During thyroid surgery, tissues and small nerves in the neck are moved and need time to heal. It is quite common to have pain, discomfort, tightness, or odd sensations for several weeks.
Taking painkillers such as paracetamol or Ibuprofen should help manage the pain. Light massage around the scar once the incision is fully healed and around the neck area can help soften tight tissue. Use a gentle moisturiser or something like vitamin E oil and gently rub in small circles avoiding pressing deeply.
If you feel that your symptoms are getting worse then do speak to your GP or the hospital team. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care, then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.
I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
