The search for cancer

Hello. I first reported symptoms to my GP at the start of march. Since then ive had a chest xray, 2 ct scans and an ultrascan but nothing has been found. A week ago i had an endoscopy for my throat/stomach. During this the dr saw something and took 4 biopsies and 2 x Clo. I noticed on the paperwork ive been referred for 2ww stt , with a review on histology.

If they have found cancer, will i be told in person and what are stomach cancer symptoms? I have lost just under 3 stone in 5 months and just recently ive been very tired.

Many thanks

  • Hello Leightblue and thanks for your post,

I can understand how unsettling this must be waiting to find out more about your situation.

If the doctors are giving you results then they will probably give the results to you in person.

Any suspected cancer is discussed in a formal meeting called an MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) meeting where the various doctors involved in your care including the histopathologist discuss your case and confirm whether it is cancer and your next steps.

Every hospital and consultant maybe slightly different but often a patient is contacted once this meeting has taken place and the doctors have had a chance to discuss all your different tests and scans.

We have a page on our website that list stomach cancer symptoms. Every patient is very different and even having some of the symptoms doesn't mean that you will be diagnosed with cancer as there are other non cancer conditions that people can get.

I do hope that you know more soon. In the meantime if you like to ring and discuss any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
