Currently having chemo but due to extreme weather, really struggling to sleep. I'm so worried I won't be able to finish my treatment. What can I do?

I am going through chemo at moment and have 2 more cycles left.  However, due to the extreme weather I am struggling to sleep at all.  The effect is now cumulative and I am worried I shall. It be able to see the treatment out - I have radiation. Next in August for 5 weeks.  I am really worried and anxious about this. Ow. What can I do

  • Hi there Lubenham and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have been struggling to sleep recently, hopefully as the temperature drops this will get better.

Do also let your specialist team know about any side effects you are experiencing so they can also support and advise you through your treatment.

I am sure you have tried various things to help keep your bedroom cool during this heat wave. However I will mention a few things here that may help.

-Opening your window a few hours before going to bed and having a fan on over night to keep the air moving can also be helpful.

-Wearing loose breathable nightwear and sleeping in sheets made from natural fabrics such as cotton, linen or bamboo.

-Popping a pillow case or bed sheet in a bag in the freezer before bed can cool the bed down too

-have a lukewarm shower just before bed

-make sure you are well hydrated with cold water before sleeping and have a glass of water beside you for in the night should you need it.

I hope this helps and that you are able to catch up with some much needed sleep soon.

Take care and you know where we are if you need to get back in touch. The helpline is also open weekdays 9-5 on 0808 800 4040 should you prefer to call us.
