Bladder investigation after prostate cancer

Hi, my husband has been successfully treated for prostate cancer but now ( 2 years) later he is being investigated for bladder cancer. Today he had a cystoscopy and was told there was nothing to give concern but is now being sent for a CT scan . Is this normal? Or are they suspecting something else?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

It's good that your husband's cystoscopy didn't show anything of concern. I appreciate that being sent for a CT scan would make you feel worried especially after everything your husband has already been through.

It is normal to have a CT scan after a cystoscopy even when the cystoscopy looks reassuring. A cystoscopy only looks inside the bladder. A CT scan looks at the kidneys, and the tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder ( ureters), the bladder wall and surrounding areas. So this is part of a routine check to check things out thoroughly .

I hope everything goes well. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
