Cervical ectropian treatment

I was treated for cervical ectropian yesterday with silver nitrate. I was told to expect a brown discharge for up to a week or two as the cervix heals. However I haven't experienced this, I've had a light bit of discharge that is very pale/clear, but definitely nothing brown in colour. Is this normal, or can it indicate the treatment hasn't worked? Thanks.

  • Hi YellowRedBlue and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you needed to have your cervix cauterised for cervical ectropion.

Experiencing a light, pale, or clear discharge rather than brown discharge can be normal.

Everyone heals a little bit differently. The light, clear discharge you have noticed can still be part of the normal healing process. It does not mean the treatment has not worked.

The "brown" colour often mentioned is just older blood. The lack of it can simply mean that  you haven't had any minor bleeding in the area, which is a positive sign.

As long as you are not having heavy bleeding, strong pain, or a bad smell from the discharge, there is usually no need to worry.

If you are unsure or your symptoms change, you can  speak to your GP or nurse for advice.

I hope the rest of your recovery is uneventful.
