I get pain in my armpit all the time. 6 days ago i felt a pulling kind of pressure under my armpit i looked and found a large lump under the skin no pain what so ever went to gp they gave me antibiotics and booked me in with the breast clinic. Now i am on day 5 of antibiotics and the lump has got worse its bigger painful and my breast is swollen doctors are telling me they different things that are causing it but this doesnt feel right.

  • Hello Alice and thanks for your post,

Finding a breast lump can cause a lot of anxiety and I can understand how unsettling it can be.

However the vast majority of breast lumps found are not cancerous. There are many benign breast conditions such as fibroadenoma and breast cysts. It is not until you have been to the breast clinic that they will hopefully rule out cancer.

Pain is also not usually associated with breast cancer. It sounds like your GP suspects an infection in your breast and you may find you may need a different antibiotic if the swelling is not getting better. Do let your GP know if your symptoms haven't improved.

I do hope that your symptoms improve and you are seen in the clinic soon.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,
