THYROID SURGERY

Hi I had half my thyroid removed 10 days ago. It will be biopsied to see if the cells are cancerous which is worrying in itself.  I’m really tired id love to go back to work but just a walk round the block and I’m tired. Does this last long or is it just a sign that it is actually cancer. I wasn’t tired before the op.
thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry to read about what’s been happening. Waiting for results and not feeling well at the same time is a lot to cope with. It’s completely understandable you’re feeling worried.

It’s still very early days after your surgery. Your body is recovering from the general anaesthetic and is healing from surgery and these can leave you feeling very tired.

Fatigue is actually one of the most common symptoms after thyroid surgery, and it’s normal to feel worn out by small things (like walking). This often lasts a few weeks and slowly improves. This happens even when results are not cancer.

The best thing to do is rest when you need to, take things slowly, and gradually build up your strength.

I hope things improve soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
