BCC removal- dull ache 7 weeks on

Hi there,

I had a BCC removed from my cheek ( near my ear) 7 weeks ago and although all went ok and I got the all clear from the biopsy, the past few days I’ve developed a dull ache down my neck.

At first I thought I’d just slept funny and pulled a muscle, then I thought it was an ear infection however now I’m concerned it could be related to my BCC removal.

Can anyone relate to this and is it possible the pain could be potential nerve damage?

7 weeks on would I have to go back to my GP or would I still be under the dermatology department?

Any advice would be greatly received.

Thank you

  • Hi Woodyt and thank you for your post.

I’m happy to hear your BCC was removed and the biopsy was clear.

I’m sorry to learn that you have recently developed a dull ache down your neck. It is possible that this ache could be related to the nerves in the area.

Nerves near the surgical site can become irritated, compressed by scar tissue, or just need time to settle after surgery.

This can present as a dull ache, shooting pains, or a tight/tingling sensation. Any alteration with sensation usually settles down with time.

It is important to get any new symptoms checked by your doctor.

If you are still waiting for your follow up appointment I would advise that you call your dermatology team.

If you have been discharged by the dermatology team team I would advise that you speak to your GP. If your GP has any concerns, then they can refer you back to the dermatology team.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

hope you can get this sorted out soon.

    Kind regards
