fibroadenoma Biopsy advice

Hi, Im just looking for some advice. I’m feeling terrified and lost and scared. I’m in my 30s and found a lump the size of like half a grape and have been to the great clinic. When I went to see the regestra he said he thought it would be a cyst but when I went in for the ultra sound she said could be fibroadenoma but because some of it wasn’t smooth she wanted the biopsy and did some biopsy’s and scanned my underarm. Felt like she was clicking the mouse under there when she was scanning. Then I went back into the first room. They have booked me an appointment in 3 weeks time for the results and didn’t give me any inclination of if it’s anything or not as they can’t say until they have results. I’m just so scared. I don’t know what to do with myself. Do they call you sooner if they find something or do they wait unti The appointment? I’m just so so scared.

  • Hi 321_cake,

A very warm welcome to the forum,

I am replying to your post because the nurses are not on he forum at the weekend. I'm sure that they'll reply when they're back on Monday.

I am sorry to hear that you are in such a state waiting for the results. Most of us would agree that this is possibly the most anxious time of our cancer journey. I can appreciate how anxious you are now, but in the long run, this should reassure you that no stone has been left unturned and you've had a thorough investigation.

I sincerely hope that this turns out to be a Fibroadenoma and nothing more untoward. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Bless you, Thankyou so much for your reply. I’m just in floods of tears and struggling to take my mind off it. Yes I’m glad they are thorough. It’s just such a long terrifying time.
thank you so much for replying and your words of hope, I hope things are turned out good for you.

  • Hi 321_cake,

The way you are feeling is normal in this situation. I have just realised that I never answered your question "Do they call you sooner if they find something or do they wait until The appointment?". You will usually get your results at the assigned appointment, regardless of the outcome.

I have been very fortunate. I had lost my mum to secondary breast cancer, after a horrendous 12 year struggle with the disease. When I was first diagnosed, I was terrified that I would face the same fate. Fortunately, diagnosis, treatment and after care, have all made tremendous advances since then and there was just no comparison between the experience which we both encountered. I had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the same breast and a diagnosis of pre-cancer in the other one. This all happened within a year of my initial diagnosis. I first had a lumpectomy, but this was followed by a double mastectomy within the year. It is now 16 years since I was first diagnosed and I still live a busy and fulfilling life today.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
