What is a obliterated pouch of douglas and what treatment is offered for it?
Hello and thanks for posting
The pouch of Douglas is a small space in the pelvis behind the womb and the bowel. Normally there is a little gap there.
“Obliterated” means that the little gap has closed mainly because tissues are stuck together with scar tissue.
Your specialist team are best to advise on treatments as they are familiar with all your medical details. But it usually involves medication (hormones, pain relief) to control symptoms. Sometimes surgery (keyhole) may be needed to separate the stuck tissue.
I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
