I had a scan in October and they said I had dense breast tissue, it is a 7mm lump and then lumpy near then. When I am on my period it is more painful and lumpy.
should I be concerned? Can I get more regular scans?

Hi Cath86 and thank you for your post.
It’s very common for breasts to feel more lumpy and sore around your period. This is due to hormone changes, and many people notice this each month.
Dense breast tissue can also make breasts feel lumpier.
A small lump like the one you describe can have many causes, and most breast lumps are not cancer. However, it is important to get any lump checked properly.
If the lump changes you should see your GP. They can examine you and decide if you need another scan or to see a specialist.
Research suggests that having dense breasts can make it slightly harder to detect breast cancer.
The NHS generally does not offer more frequent scans solely for dense breast tissue.
Breast Cancer Now believe The UK National Screening Committee needs to consider whether women with very dense breasts should be offered additional imaging during their routine screening.
If you are still worried, it is okay to go back to your doctor and ask for advice again.
You can also ask if you need follow-up checks, but scans outside the screening programme are only given when your doctor recommends them.

Heya. Call the helpline 0808 800 4040 to talk with a nurse. Breast Cancer Now are a charity that supports the breast cancer community. Take a look at their website. We are all here for you. Good luck. Welcome to the forums.
Thanks I think I am reassured by what the nurse has replied. I get it checked regularly just worry it’s missed something as it doesn’t disappear. I have had it many years and also had lumps removed from my armpits, I seem prone to lumps around that area.
