Labia majora - lump I've had in the area has started to change and is now painful. What should I do?

I have had a painless pea sized lump by the labia majora and groin for years, sometimes it got tight, bled. The last few days it few by an inch or more like a kidney bean shape and the area around it burning and swollen, painful. Hard to sit. The labia on the right side all swollen up and hard to wipe myself when I pee. Today there’s brown blood /discharge come from the area when I wipe (small amount) . It is painful, uncomfortable and a red and slightly black toward the labia.

can you help?

  • Ask to see your team. Maybe send them a email describing your issue and request advice on what to do next.

  • Hello Listerine, and thank you for getting in touch.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve noticed a change in your lump. It’s completely understandable to feel worried when this happens.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to diagnose you. Only a doctor who can examine you and arrange any necessary tests can do this. Because the lump has changed, it’s important to get it checked. We would recommend making an appointment with your GP as soon as you can.

There are many possible causes for lumps that are not cancer, such as cysts or skin tags, which are very common.

I hope you’re able to get this looked at soon. If you’d like further support, you’re very welcome to contact us again or speak to one of our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

    Jemma
