Our friendly team of moderators are amazing and on duty 365 days a year, however we do not provide a 24 hour moderation service. Our specialist nurses are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
It’s important to note that Cancer Chat isn’t a crisis service. If you are looking for crisis help or if you or someone you’re with is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E
Who do I contact in an emergency?
Your hospital team will tell you who to call if your symptoms get bad at night, or at the weekend. If you are currently undergoing cancer treatment and feel very unwell, call the 24-hour hotline number provided by your hospital or treatment team immediately. If you do not have this, call 111
If you are being cared for at home, your GP, community nurse or palliative care team should explain what to do if you need help out of hours.
If you are having chemotherapy, you should be given a 24-hour emergency phone number. Call this if you are unwell or need information about side effects. If you haven’t been given an emergency number, ask your nurse for this.
If you live in England, Wales or Scotland, you can call 111 or use NHS 111 online for advice out of hours. In Northern Ireland, there are local out of hours phone numbers for each region, which you can find on the nidirect website. Your GP answer phone message may also have an out of hours number for you to call
If you need urgent help for your mental health
- Get help from 111 online or call 111 and select the mental health option.
- call 116 123 to talk to Samaritans, or email: jo@samaritans.org for a reply within 24 hours
- if you're under 19, you can also call 0800 1111 to talk to Childline – the number will not appear on your phone bill
These services will only share your information if they are very worried about you or think you are in immediate danger.
