neck lump that's gone down but not fully gone

Hi I'm an 18 year old and about a month and a half ago I found a lump on my neck. I was ill at the time so thought nothing of it and it has gone down somewhat but it still hasn't disappeared. it's got two smaller lumps within it - one is hard and pea shaped and doesn't move much and one is longer, soft and moves a lot. I'm a very anxious person so I'm trying to convince myself not to jump to the worst conclusion but I'm starting to worry about it :( I've been ill a few times since bit I havent had any lasting symptoms apart from feeling quite tired but that might just be exam stress. do I need to worry??

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

Lymph nodes tend to swell up when we have an infection and then settle down but sometimes this can take several months. As it sounds like you have had a recent infection and the lump is reducing in size it is unlikely to be anything to worry about.

Try not to worry about it but keep an eye on it and if you notice further changes or any worrying symptoms then do see your GP for your own peace of mind. Perhaps you could mention it and show the lump to your parent or another trusted adult and get their opinion about it.

Exam season can be very stressful so look after yourself by eating and drinking healthily, getting some fresh air and exercise and plenty of sleep.

    Take care
