Leaking right nipple has started up again. Should I get this checked?

Hi. Last year my right nipple was leaking spontaneously, clear fluid sometimes a different more orange colour. Had a scan done and all was fine. It’s now been about 6 months and it’s happening again only on my right nipple the same as last time quite a lot of fluid leaking randomly. Is it worth getting checked again? Could it be something bad?

  • Hi Kiara427,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing the same symptoms again in the other breast. We are always advised to get any changes we notice checked out. It is definitely worth getting this investigated again. I sincerely hope that all turns out to be fine again.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

While most nipple discharge is caused by benign (non-cancerous) conditions, the clear or orange tinted fluid from a single breast, can also be a sign of an underlying breast issue.

Some women are just more prone to developing certain breast conditions. Medications or changes in hormone levels can cause nipple discharge. Also, the breast mammary ducts can get bigger with age, or there can be minor breast duct infections. Sometimes an intraductal papilloma (small benign growth in a duct) can cause nipple discharge. It is less likely overall to be related to a breast cancer.

However, anything new or persistent should be checked out again, for peace of mind, and to get a steer on what's causing it.

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
