My operation - since having polyps removed I've been having trouble with my bowels. Is this normal?

I had 10 polyps removed from my bowels. this is not the first time I have had this done. but this time I have no feelings of wanting to empty my bowels until the last minute. when I need to rush to the toilet. Is this unusual? even though I have had to stay at home since the operation a couple of weeks ago. I daren't  go out. even then I have had a couple of embarrassing accidents,  so now I feel totally isolated,

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry to read about what’s happening. This must be a difficult time for you.

What you’re experiencing is not unusual after having lots of polyps removed. The bowel can become more sensitive and unpredictable. This often improves over time. You may find it helpful to avoid trigger foods (like caffeine or spicy food), and go to the toilet regularly (don’t wait for the urge).

Do speak to your GP if your symptoms are not improving over the next couple of weeks.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
