Sarcoma in left breast

Hi

Yesterday I had an appointment at the hospital in the breast clinic which was meant to have been a 2 week appointment after waiting almost 4 (I am 52 and has not been invited for a routine mammogram) many of my friends my age (different health authorities) had had theirs .

i went to my GP surgery to raise this last year and was told to wait for my invitation.

fast forward 9/10 months . I found a lump and eventually got an appointment yesterday.

they have found a 7cm lump which they have said is a sarcoma.

they are having a meeting next Thursday to discuss due to the size of it does to the sarcoma dept or stays with the breast clinic and sent on my way
.

i will need an MRI and she t on my way to await a phone call following the meeting next week .

i have made and paid for a private appointment on Saturday. I have been suffering with what I have been told a trapped nerve in my shoulder since last summer . Only today when o was running g in ibuprofen gel I my shoulder I realised it's the opposite side of where the liump is .

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about what's been happening. This must be a stressful time for you.

Women usually receive their first NHS breast screening invitation between the ages of 50 and 53.

You mention your doctors believe your breast lump is a sarcoma. Patients are usually discussed within a MDT ( Multi Disciplinary Team) in the hospital where all the specialists come together to decide the best course of action for each individual patient. The decisions are based upon the type and stage ( size and extent) of cancer and how fit and well they are. They will decide whether you need to be treated within a breast or sarcoma team after the MRI scan results are known.

Some people choose to get a private appointment as they hope it may speed things up and give clearer information sooner.

A trapped nerve in the shoulder is quite common and can last a long time. The fact that your shoulder pain has been ongoing since last year and is on the opposite side to your lump makes it much less likely to be related.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
