Zometa - have been struggling with terrible headaches since I had my infusion on Monday. Is there anything I can do to make it better?

I had my infusion on monday 20th April. The next day I couldn't get out of bed with the aches , thumping headache, watery eyes and listening to my blood pumping through my ears. Had that all day and some of the next day. Thursday was fine even went out for lunch. Then Friday woke up with another headache and pretty much the same as the day after having the infusion. The only difference  was that I used a medi pot to flush out my nose and nose spray today but made my headache  worse. So i have stopped it now. Been taking paracetamol  and ibuprofen and drinking lots of water but the headache is still banging and now have some earache. . Anything else I should do as I am near to ringing the hospital. Because  ive had problems  with my sinuses my doctors think Ive got the side effects of infusion and my sinuses going on.

  • Hello Suemum3

I'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling so unwell since your Zometa infusion earlier this week.

Our nurses are not in the office now until Monday morning, so I wanted to reply to say that if you're worried, please do give NHS 111 a call, or if you have been given a number to call at the hospital, then ring them.

Hopefully, they will be able to give you some advice and reassurance and arrange for you to see a doctor if necessary.

I do hope that you're feeling better soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Suemum3 and thank you for getting in touch,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing these side effects. This must be a difficult time.

It sounds as though you’re doing all you can at the moment. However, if your symptoms aren’t settling or are getting worse, it is best to contact your cancer team at the hospital. They can review how you’re feeling, offer advice, and check whether any changes to your treatment or medication are needed.

Take care, and I hope you’re able to get some support with this soon.

You’re very welcome to get back in touch with us, or, if you’d prefer, call our free helpline on 0808 800 4040 to speak with one of our nurses. We’re here Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

    Kind regards,

    Jemma

  • Thank you. It did settle down in the end but I think it was the side effects of zometa. After reading about others having it they had the same symptoms. Also on their next infusion it wasn't  as bad
