Bleeding and sanitary protection

This feels like a silly question but I don't know where/who else to ask.

I have had 3 bouts of post menopause bleeding since February and this time is the heaviest, so I need to use proper period pads, not just liners. Ive not had periods for years so don't have stocks anymore but can I use tampons for this kind of bleeding? In Feb my gp said they saw an area on my cervix which looked possibly like the source of bleeding.

(I had a transv ultrasound end of Feb and womb lining thickness was fine, just a cyst on my ovary which they're rescanning end of june and after that I will get a gynaecology appointment in July. In March I had another few days of bleeding and contacted my gp to see if it was ok to leave til June. They contacted the gynaecology team to ask if anyone checked my cervix at the hospital when I had the scan. There's not been a reply to that yet).

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are having problems with postmenopausal bleeding, but I'm glad that the transvaginal ultrasound is all fine. Hopefully you will know more about that soon.

I am not aware that there is a problem with using tampons rather than a sanitary towel, but do clarify this with your doctor the next time you speak to them.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with any of the nurses then do call 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
