Colorectal stratified first appointment

Consultant said six months

Actual appointment three months

As a worrier, should I be concerned?  Was told good margin and no adjuvant.  Are they not telling me something.  What should I ask them on Thursday?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

An earlier follow‑up appointment doesn’t automatically mean that something is wrong. There are many routine reasons this happens, and it doesn’t suggest anyone is hiding information.

What you’ve been told so far is positive. 'Good margin” means they removed the cancer with a comfortable border of healthy tissue around it. This is very good news.

'No adjuvant treatment” means they don’t think chemotherapy or radiotherapy is needed after surgery which is also a positive sign.

Both are strong signs that things all look fine. Your worry is completely understandable most people feel anxious when follow‑up plans change.

The following questions may be helpful to ask at your clinic appointment this week.

Why was my appointment moved earlier?

Is there anything in my pathology you’re keeping an eye on?

Does “good margin and no adjuvant treatment” still stand?

What’s the plan for follow‑up (scans, tests, timings)?

Is there anything I should watch for at home?

    What’s my risk of recurrence?

Who can I contact if I become worried between my next appointment?

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
