Endometrial lining at 15mm and possible lesion on my cervix

I am 33 years old and just last week had a transvaginal scan that showed both my ovaries were cystic, I have a possible lesion on my cervix and my endometrial lining is measuring 15mm with fluid filled spaces. I was referred urgent 2WW. I had a consultation with a nurse today and she explained I would need a hysteroscopy to check the lining and take a biopsy to be tested. I am so scared of the results. I have my appointment in 3 weeks for it. Ive been told that its painful.

I have never been pregnant but I want to be, I'm so scared of a cancer diagnosis.

Has anyone had the same experience?

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

Undergoing tests can be a worrying time for people so I am sorry you are going through this at the moment.

There can be many reasons for cystic ovaries and a thickened womb lining and most won't be as serious as a cancer but only further tests will be able to give clearer answers.

Being put on the suspected cancer pathway can be scary but it is the quickest way to be seen in the NHS. It is however important to remember that most people won't go on to be diagnosed with a cancer who are on this pathway.

Try and take things one step at a time for now and don't let your thoughts run away with themselves until you know more.

The doctors and nurses involved in your care will talk you though what they are doing so you understand what is going on.

A hysteroscopy can be uncomfortable usually like a period pain so you may choose to take some paracetamol or ibuprofen an hour before the procedure to see if this helps. Do let the person know if the pain or discomfort is too much so they can stop. There are some instances where they will sedate people for the test but usually another appointment will need to be scheduled for this.

Do talk through any questions or concerns you have with the team involved and I do hope all goes well and you know more very soon.

You are welcome to post here again or if you prefer give one of the nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi
