  • Hello Nas- and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum.

I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you're contending with and that it's making you want to harm your self. Contending with such pain, and thoughts, must be very distressing but we are here for you Nas- and I hope this information I've found on how to cope with the urges to self harm will help. However, if you feel you are unable to keep yourself safe please reach out to your friends and/or family for support or contact the NHS on either 111, or if it's an emergency, 999.

Talking to others about how you are feeling can really help in situations like these and there are many helplines and listening services that provide support to anyone who is in distress, feeling isolated, or struggling with overwhelming thoughts such as self harm. The Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123 and they will do all they can to support you and help you work through what's on your mind. The mental health charity SANE are available 365 days of the year between the hours of 4p.m - 10p.m on 0300 304 7000. They provide emotional support to anyone who may have reached a moment of crisis and will give you all the time and space you need to talk about what you're going through however, we also know talking about self harm can be very difficult so if it would be easier to message someone then the mental health charity SHOUT are available 24 hours a day on 85258. They offer a free, confidential text messaging service to anyone who is struggling to cope or is in need of urgent, in-the-moment support.

Although our cancer nurses are not available over the weekend they will offer you further support and advice when they are back in the office tomorrow.

In the meantime, my thoughts are with you Nas- and I hope my reply can offer you some comfort and reassurance that you are not alone at this time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hello Naz and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are struggling with your mental health. I see Steph, our moderator, has provided you with some useful organisations that can support you during this time and I hope you will reach out to them.

We have information on mental health and cancer that you may find useful to look at. This also lists where to seek out more help and support

I'm not sure if you've let your healthcare team know about your lump and neck swelling. They are better placed to advise you further as they are familiar with all your medical details.

I hope you get the support you need. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
