Recommendation for skin care

Hi I'm 50 years old woman with papillary thyroid cancer T3 and suspected melanoma (awaiting for histology results, I had WLE surgery this week).

Do you have recommendations for any good daily facial moisturisers with spf 30-50, for cancer patients, please?

  • Hello, and thank you for your post.

It sounds like you’re coping with a lot right now, especially while waiting for your melanoma results. This waiting period can be very difficult.

We can’t recommend a specific moisturiser, but choosing a gentle, fragrance‑free product with SPF 30–50 is a good approach. It doesn’t need to be specifically for cancer patients. Just make sure it offers broad‑spectrum UVA and UVB protection and avoid anything heavily fragranced or irritating while your skin is healing.

We have information on how to care for your facial skin, which I hope is useful.

It’s also worth knowing that moisturisers with SPF don’t usually offer the same level of protection as a dedicated sunscreen, so using a separate broad‑spectrum sunscreen is still recommended.

Take care, and feel free to get back in touch if you need more support. You can also speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, on 0808 800 4040 (freephone).

    Best wishes,

    Jemma
