Confused

DukesB tumor removal.  Temporary ileostomy. 6 January 2026.  XRay 16 March 2026, apparently heale

I keep reading horror stories about about reversal, nothing positive so far!

I'm doing the exercises to 'beef' up the splincter muscle every day.   I thought it was to help stop 'leakage'.  In fact it makes it feel the opposite.  Is this correct?  Am I doing something wrong.  There is some whitef-ish leakage.  Is this ok?

Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It isn't clear from your email whether you have had the reversal surgery yet or not.

It is not uncommon to still pass mucus from the rectum as there are usually some small gland cells left that produce this. If it became offensive smelling or had blood in it, then you would need to report it to a doctor. I am not sure if you are having any current follow up hospital appointments. Do reach out and make contact with the hospital specialist colon rectal nurse for some guidance on this. They are best placed to give you individual guidance on your situation.

There are some exercises outlined in the NHS Hospital guidance for anal-sphincter-exercises after reversal.

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thank you.  Not had reversal surgery yet.  S
