Armpit lump

I’m on a pathway testing for breast cancer. I’ve had 3 biopsies, ultrasound, Ct scan and MRI and am awaiting results on 23rd,

The biopsies are all on right side breast and lymph nodes, these past few days I have got a really inflamed lump on the left side, it’s really low down under the armpit, it’s getting very painful and sore.
I've called breast nurses at hospital twice and they advised to see my doctor, so my Doctors have booked me in for Monday.

Should I just take Nurofen or something till then ?

  • Hello, and thank you for getting in touch.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve needed to undergo biopsies and other tests. It can be a difficult time waiting for results.

If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort, taking over‑the‑counter pain relief such as paracetamol may help. Ibuprofen (Nurofen) can also be useful if you’re able to take it. Your local pharmacist will be able to advise you on the most suitable option while you wait for your appointment.

I hope your symptoms begin to settle soon. Please do get in touch if you have any more questions or would like further support. If you’d prefer to speak with one of our cancer information nurses, you can call our helpline on 0808 800 4040 (freephone), Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Jemma
