  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry read about your situation and can appreciate this must be a difficult time for you.

During breast cancer surgery, the surgeon also checks nearby lymph nodes. It’s quite common for some lymph nodes to contain cancer, and because you have one lymph node affected, your doctors have ordered these scans to check that the cancer hasn’t spread anywhere else.

It's natural to feel worried but these scans are routine. It does not mean that the doctors think your cancer has spread. It means that they want to double check to understand the full picture so they can choose the best treatment plan for you (such as hormone therapy, radiotherapy, and sometimes chemotherapy ).

Many women with one positive lymph node go on to have successful treatment.

Your breast care team are there to support you. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
