Where can I get the information I need?

I went to A&E on Jan 17 had a CT scan, which showed a calcified meningioma. My GP referred me to Neurology, I had to have an MRI first, this has delayed my first neurology appointment, by 2 weeks.

The appointment is a phonecall on June 17th. It seems a long time, as my throbbing headaches are getting worse. My gp is very hard to get in touch with, I have to wait until next Friday 13th to see her.

So I have next to no support/help in coping with this. I've been feeling suicidal but cannot talk to anyone. I keep thinking that at 80 I don't matter any more.

I'm usually the one supporting everyone else and being up beat, so this is really hard to cope with. I don't think the gp knows or cares how frightening this is. If I wasn't getting these symptoms, I wouldn't

be so worried.

  • Hi Marion and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I hope you don't mind me stopping by but as our nurses don't work on weekday evenings I wanted to reassure you that your post has been seen and that we are sending you all our support at this very difficult time.

I'm very sorry to hear how long you have to wait for your next neurology appointment and that you're unable to speak to your GP for another week about your headaches. This must be very distressing. If your symptoms continue to get worse in the meantime or you feel that you can't wait next week, please don't hesitate in giving the NHS a call on 111 for further advice.

Feeling like you have no support to help you cope must be very difficult, even more so when you've been feeling suicidal, but you are not alone Marion as you can talk to us anytime about what you are going through. I hope this information I've found on how to cope with suicidal thoughts will help, but if you would prefer to talk to someone you can give the Samaritans a call on 116 123. Their phone lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they will do all they can to support you. The mental health charity SANE has a helpline you can call on 0300 304 7000 between the hours of 4p.m - 10p.m as well, so please reach out for support if you continue to feel this way.

I'm sure our nurses will be able to comment further on your situation tomorrow but in the meantime, I want you to know that you do matter, very much, and we will be here to support you throughout your cancer journey.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
