Travel within weeks of possible treatment starting

Hello

I have diagnosed ductal invasive carcinoma.

I've had a MDT response to planning. I've received my next appointment having been referred back to my local hospital for ongoing care and treatment. This is 18th March. I'm booked to fly away on holiday for 10days on 24th April.

I'm unsure what I can do regarding the holiday as its so close and would likely need a doctors letter if I'm to cancel it.

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your recent diagnosis, and appreciate this must be a difficult time for you.

Whether you will be able to go on holidaylnext month will depend on when your treatment is planned to begin. Sometimes it is fine, but sometimes treatment or recovery means it isn’t.

At your appointment next week, you can ask your team if it’s safe for you to go on holiday. They are better placed to advise you further as they are familiar with all your medical details.

If they advise you not to travel, they can give you a doctor’s letter to help you cancel your holiday and claim through travel insurance if needed.

I hope you are able to get away on holiday. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
