Hello and thanks for posting
I'm sorry to read about your situation and can appreciate this is an anxious time for you.
There can be many reasons for a positive FIT test and most are unrelated to cancer. Many non‑cancerous conditions can cause a positive FIT, including polyps, haemorrhoids, and inflammatory bowel conditions, but something more serious such as cancer does need to be ruled out. It is only a colonoscopy that is able to take a closer look at the bowel to find out exactly what the cause may be.
I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy.
I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
it does not definitely mean you have cancer. A high result can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), large polyps, or bleeding hemorrhoids
I had a postive too 26 and waiting for urgent referal scared is an understatement
Hi there and thanks for posting
It can be very scary undergoing investigations for a possible cancer but try not to let your mind run away with itself for now.
As others have said on this thread there can be many reasons for a positive fit test and other out of normal range blood results that aren't cancer. Most people referred onto a suspected cancer pathway won't be found to have cancer but it is the quickest way to be seen and get the tests needed to find out more.
Hopefully you will hear from the hospital team soon so the ball can start rolling in getting some more answers.
Try and keep yourself busy with other things if you can as it can help distract your thoughts and pass the time more quickly. Do also share this with a family member or friend so you aren't journeying this alone.
If you have more questions do get back in touch or if you prefer to speak on the phone then call the nurses on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.
Take care
Naomi
