  • Hi Logan, thanks for getting in touch.

I’m really sorry to hear that your friend has throat cancer. It’s completely normal to have lots of questions, and it’s really thoughtful of you to want to understand more.

The term “throat cancer” isn’t a precise medical term, so doctors don’t usually use it. There are a few different parts of the throat area that can be affected by cancer. If you’re able to find out the exact name of the cancer your friend has, that can sometimes make it easier to look up the right information. In the meantime, you may find it helpful to read our general information about cancers in the throat area, how they’re diagnosed, and how they’re treated.

If your friend is around your age, you might also find the Teenage Cancer Trust website really useful. They explain things clearly for young people and have great advice on how to support a friend with cancer.

Being there for your friend can make a big difference. Even small things like checking in, sending a message, or doing normal activities together when they feel well enough can really help. But it’s also important to look after yourself. If you ever feel worried or overwhelmed, try talking to a trusted adult such as a parent, teacher, or school counsellor.

If you have any questions or would like anything explained in a simpler way, please feel free to get back in touch. You can also call our nurses on the helpline between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, on 0808 800 4040 (freephone).

    Take care

    Jemma
