Going from Zoladex and AI to Tamoxifen

Hi,

I have been asking my GP for a while now and they have reached out to Oncology but nobody can give me an answer.

After 5 years on Zoladex and Exemestane I will be moving to Tamoxifen in 2 weeks. But I have no idea what this entails. I will have my Zoladex in 2 weeks which is my last so I’m wondering if usually I would also stop the Exemestane then and have a period without anything before I start Tamoxiifen?

I’ve been really concerned about the impact of doing this. Just wondering what usually happens so I can have a bit of information.

Thank you

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

Unfortunately changing medications can cause some anxiety for people especially when you have been on the current medications for a while now.

As your GP has been unable to get much back from oncology I would encourage you to speak with one of the breast care nurses if you still have a contact number for them as they may be better to answer your queries. Failing that try to call your oncologists specialist secretary through the hospitals switchboard and ask if they can help you.

Generally speaking when switching from an AI ( Aromatase Inhibitor) to Tamoxifen people can usually switch without needing a break but as I say your specialist team can confirm this for you.

I hope this is helpful but do get back in touch anytime. You can always call us on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
