MRI tomorrow - I'm in a dark place at the moment and worried about how long I have left if everything goes south

I have my mri tomorrow, I have a tender point on my rib right hand side and a slight ache in my right hip, I wish I could turn the clock back and pushed my gp to do a psa test, I had a colonoscopy a few years ago, blood test and the doctor said there is no cancer there. I didn't realise at the time that had nothing to do with a psa. I'm in a dark.place at the moment as I watched my dad die of it he was 72 now I am 72 and its all coming back. I know the question is how long do I have left if  everything goes south, my wife and son say don't worry about things that haven't happened  but it's all I can think of. ( my psa is 19.4) and my hope is fading. Sorry for the essay.

  • Hey Dugster, and thank you for posting,

I’m really sorry to hear what you’re going through right now. Waiting for tests and results can feel stressful, especially when you’re dealing with symptoms like rib pain and a raised PSA. Understandably, your mind may jump to the worst‑case scenario; this period of uncertainty can be one of the hardest parts for many people.

Hopefully, the MRI will bring you closer to some clear answers. Until then, all you can do is take things one step at a time, which I appreciate can feel challenging.

If you want to talk things through or need some support, we’re here for you. You can also speak with one of our cancer information nurses on the helpline, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, on 0808 800 4040.

I hope the scan goes smoothly today and that you get clarity about your situation as soon as possible.

    Jemma
