Possible skin cancer - dermatologist has said I need growth removed based on the photos that were sent over to them. So worried they've seen something sinister

I went to the GP about a growth (not a mole) on my back. She took pictures using a hand help camera with sort of microscope attachment. These were sent to dermatology at the hospital. I received a letter from the hospital stating they had reviewed the photos and I was being Red Flag referred. I then received a letter from the hospital stating a dermatologist had looked at the photos and has decided I need the growth fully removed. I can’t help thinking that as they’ve gone straight for removal based on the photos they have seen something sinister

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and can appreciate this must be a worrying time for you.

Try not to over think things for now if you can though. Whilst it sounds like the doctors have suspicions about this as they want it removed until it is looked at under the microscope there is no way in knowing.

There are many different types of skin cancers as well as benign ( non cancer) growths so try and sit tight for now.

Hopefully your appointment will come through soon and you can ask the doctor some more questions about what they think this may be to get a better understanding.

Do get back in touch if you wish to or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5 and more than happy to talk to you over the phone.

    Take care

    Naomi
