Pain & discomfort 10weeks post 2x breast biopsy

Hi, I had stereotactic biopsy following a small cluster of calcifications from this they advsised I had LCIS and needed a large volume of vacuum biopsy to remove which was done approx 10wks ago. The results came back all clear and annual screening annually which is great. The bruising and initially pain went away within a week but since then had pain under arm and stabbing sensation in side of my breast which my gp said was normal and prescribed pain killers. I know it takes time for the area to heal but the pain sometime goes into my shoulder , arm and hand and finding it difficult to manage is this normal ?

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I'm sorry to hear about the biopsies you had carried out and some ongoing pain and discomfort you are experiencing since this was done.

Unfortunately there are occasions when nerves can be damaged during this procedure. I'm afraid it can take time for the nerves to repair themselves and things to settle down and for some it can take several months to improve. Take the pain relief as and when you need to ( and if it helps) but carrying out some gentle stretches and arm exercises may also help.

Do let your doctor know about the ongoing pain so they can also reassess you and advise you of other things to try and help.

Feel free to get back in touch with any other questions or give us a call on 0808 800 4040 weekdays 9-5 if you prefer.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Millie,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am delighted to hear that you got the all clear following your biopsy, but sorry to hear about the pain that you are experiencing since then. I just want to reassure you that this is not unusual. I had pain for several months following a biopsy, but it did eventually settle down.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
